We moved our dispatch scheduling off spreadsheets last quarter. Six weeks in, the honest scorecard: driver utilization is up about 9%, but we underestimated how much retraining the dispatchers would need. If anyone has run this same change at a larger fleet, I would like to compare notes on how you handled the first month.

Question for the hiring managers here. When you interview someone who has been out of work for a year, how much weight do you actually put on the gap? I have stopped asking about it entirely and I have not regretted it once. Curious whether that is naive or whether the rest of you landed in the same place.

Something I got wrong for years: I treated the discovery phase as a formality before the real work. Now I spend twice as long there and the projects finish faster. The client conversations are harder up front and much easier later. Not a revelation to anyone senior, probably, but it took me a while.

I am working two roles in industrial automation, both onsite in the Houston area, both in the 140 to 165 range. Rather than blast the feed, I would rather hear from people who actually want to talk about it. If that is you, message me and I will send the details.

Took a smaller title to move into a company I believe in. Three months later I would do it again, though I will admit the first few weeks stung more than I expected. Posting this because I looked for exactly this kind of post when I was deciding and could not find an honest one anywhere.

We killed a feature this week that took eight months to build. Usage never got above 2%. I wrote the internal postmortem and the uncomfortable finding was that we had the data to know by month two. Happy to share the template we used if it is useful to anyone.
